Water System

Fresh water comes from city wells and from the city's reservoir. The city operates the only off-river reservoir in the county. It stores approximately one years' supply for City residents, and was built with the capability to be expanded to twice this capacity. The City has contracted to treat river water for the City of Meridian. In return for incremental treatment costs and a payment to help defray the cost of building the plant, Clifton pumps water from the North Bosque River into the reservoir, and treats it. Beginning late summer, 2009, a pump station built and operated by the City of Meridian moves up to 100,000 gallons of water per day to a newly constructed storage facility there.

Sanitary Sewer System

The City's ABJ Batch Reaction state-of-the-art sewage treatment plant is located on the west bank of the North Bosque River. The plant has a capacity of 650 thousand gallons per day and is licensed through the Texas Commission On Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Daily tests and reporting systems assure the discharge into the river meets stringent TCEQ standards. In addition, TCEQ conducts inspections of the facility, its operation, and the documentation required to demonstrate the plant is operating within licensed limits.
